In childhood we work on fear
For a few years now, two very different festivals have coexisted: THE CHESTNUT i HALLOWEEN.
At school we have joined the “CASTAWEEN” trend because it helps us work with children with a very important emotion: FEAR.
In the older kindergarten classes we take advantage of the Halloween holiday to talk about FEAR.
We all have it, we've all felt it a few times and we all, little by little, are learning to overcome fear and manage it.
These weeks, we have all enjoyed sessions in the dark at the Atelier, and the play corner, getting really scary and playing at scaring ourselves.
To P4 the boys and girls were able to paint their faces if they wanted, we did the routine of thought Color Symbol Image on an image of children in costumes celebrating Halloween and we have made puzzles. We have also made a pumpkin with light to attract good things and drive away bad things.
To P5 we have explained the story “The pore-eating machine” and, like the protagonist of the story, we wrote or drew what scares us and tied it to a tree. We also did the routine of thought: “I see, I think, I wonder” about the image of FEAR from “l'Emocionari”.
We have reflected on the things that scare us and how, sometimes, the mind can make us imagine more things than can actually happen. Real fears, imaginary fears, fears of fright... We have shared who we ask for help when we are afraid, what we do when we have bad dreams...
And we have realized that we are ashamed to admit that we are afraid, but we have also seen that we all have it... we all feel it or have felt it.
And so, between chestnuts and dances of the Castanyada, we have learned to accept and manage our fears.
