New workshops in ESO
This 2019-2020 academic year, the Padre Damián Sacred Hearts School is proposing a novelty very prominent in all courses of the secondary: we have reorganized the schedule so that our students have two weekly slots to work intensively on reading comprehension and general culture.
The world we live in is changing very quickly and it is essential that they know what is happening around them and can understand why it is happening. Therefore, apart from all the learning that is achieved through the subjects, which is already on its way here, this year we wanted to give it a reinforcement because we believe that only by ensuring a full understanding of the facts and the reasons that explain them, students will be able to position themselves on them and act accordingly, acquiring a decisive capacity to be active citizens and with criterion of the world that they will have to live.
For this reason, we have created the Culture Workshop and the Reading Workshop, two 30-minute weekly spaces each that impact the schedules of all students from 1st to 4th year of ESO.
On the one hand, the culture workshop It aims to cover, through small pills, those topics that are of general interest but that, for whatever reason, are not explicitly covered in the subjects. The intention, therefore, is for students to have some time in which they can expand their general knowledge base and learn about the world in which they live.
On the other hand, the reading workshop It aims to strengthen reading comprehension as a basis for better understanding and achieving what is being worked on in other subjects. In addition, the suggested activities aim to help students structure their ideas and improve their spelling and written and oral expression.
We are convinced that these new proposals, which have been intensively worked on and prepared by the teaching teams, will bear fruit soon and we will see how the students' criteria towards the world and their deeper understanding grow.
